BH Gold Arts Award Portfolio

The Gold Arts Award Portfolio for Bethan Howells at Treasure House CIC

Below is all of the evidence for my Gold Arts Award. If you want to skip the evidence you can look at my final projects here:

Unit 1 – Drag Dolls

Unit 2 – Community Art Mural

Unit 1: Part A

My main art form is acrylic painting and my past projects included making ‘drag’ versions of classic paintings. I wanted to expand into sculpture using a mixture of clay work, found objects and mixed media.

Unit 1: Part B

Because of the closures of schools and businesses, I completed my placement virtually. I worked with the set and prop designer Izzy Parker.

I also worked with Neil from Dream Decor Limited. He helped me to learn more about installation art and helped me to plan and deliver the community mural project from unit 2.

Unit 1: Part C

Beauty • Artwork • Studio Olafur Eliasson

In this unit, I completed research into artists and art events. I conducted research into the artists, Grayson Perry and Robert Mapplethorpe and I visited the Olafur Eliason exhibition at the Tate Modern, the Zandra Rhodes exhibition at the V+A, Death of a Salesman at the Young Vic, The State Hermitage Museum in Russia, and Hong Kong.

Unit 1: Part D

This section is all about an issue in the art world. I have researched the artist Ana Mendieta and the issues surrounding her death.

Unit 2: Part A

I wanted to create a piece of community art that would inspire others to create art but would also spread a positive message in my community so I decided to create a community mural for everyone to enjoy and I was given permission to paint my mural on the side of the school.

Unit 2: Part C

To paint a mural on the side of a school building, I needed to work with other students and staff. I also worked with Neil from Dream Decor. I needed models to help me create reference pictures.
