My Project
I launched a comic book club at school with a trip to Forbidden Planet in London.

Leadership skills
I think leadership is about utilising your team members strengths through organisation and communication with the goal of improving as a team. To achieve this I think charisma could be a useful asset to have in helping team members up their trust in you. But I think “man-management” skills being communication is essential to motivate and inspire but also to pick people up when they’re down.
When I was volunteering at a coffee shop, the store manager was a good leader because they had the knowledge of something I wanted to improve at (making coffee) but they also had the communication skills to relay this knowledge to me. They also had the charisma to stop me from getting flustered when I made a mistake.
Leadership is about involving all members of a group/team and trying to get them actively working with other members.
Background information
I would like to develop my charisma to help with leadership allround, to be more approachable for team members at their times of need. I would also like to develop my communication to my team members. Communication is an umbrella term for many skills so I would focus on my body language and tone of voice to attract attention from the team and transmit my calmness and confidence in my team into them.
Project Aims and Outcomes
In my arts leadership project, my role is to organise the a trip to forbidden planet to engage with a comic/animated theme of art. I will be required to put in safeguards for the other students in the specialist setting and making sure my confidence ensures the students don’t panic, can safely engage with the art form of comics but also stay safe during the trip to forbidden planet. After, I am to get a few of the students (involved in the trip) to have a relaxed group discussion talking about their interests of anime/manga/animations and aim to give recommendations to other members based on their interests. As the leader of this group project, i would shoulder the burden of trying to start the conversation and helping it run smoothly as some students may be shy. I will use my initiative to find solutions for any problems such as shyness like perhaps getting partners within the group and making suggestions to each other (written or verbally to help with students’ needs) within their current interests and what the members want to expand into.
What I will need from others
I will need support from Treasure House teachers to teach me the procedures for running a trip. I will need to meet with Helen (the head teacher) and Melanie (my supervisor) to arrange resources, learn how to make a risk assessment, decide which students to take and create a budget.
Judging the success of the project and monitoring progress
I will meet regularly with Melanie and other teachers and listen to their feedback.
I will consult with other students along the way.
After the trip and comic book club meeting, I will ask students and teachers for feedback using a survey.
