Planning the project
To show how I planned to work with others, I have put examples of working with others in bold.
Practical issues
I discussed practical issues in my first meeting with Helen and Melanie on March 27th:

Meeting 1 Minutes 27 March 2024
Present: Helen, Owen, Melanie
Location: Zoom
Having a group which meets at lunch times to explore different comics and activities
– Possible members – PCB, CHP, ZL, ND as well as others
– The idea is to have a social group to help everyone to be more engaged
– Everyone could bring in 1 item related to the world of comics eg a figure, picture, card-game, board game, trump cards, Munchkin or just a comic
– Owen needs to keep records so could possibly record his introduction each meeting but not whole session
Trip to store to pick up comics for TH
– Will need 1-2 adults to go on trip but not to lead it, just support.
– Risk assessment is part of the content so Helen to send a template to Melanie to work on with Owen
– Afterwards, students encouraged to write reviews
Owen will be entered probably in August so will have the rest of term to carry out project. Trip after exams over.
Timescales
- April – Create promotional materials for the trip and the club / discuss options with students and staff
- May – Research comics to include, research different routes to take, food options etc.
- June – Pick a date for the trip, write a permission letter and risk assessment, set a budget for the trip, communicate with parents and students, organise the first meeting of the club
- July – Trip to take place, first meeting to take place
Promotion of the project
- I made two posters to promote the trip and the comic book club using Canva

How I will deliver the project
- I will communicate with teachers and staff to organise the trip
- I will take a leadership role on the day
- I will make sure to take photos on the trip
- I will work with my English teacher, Jo, who will be coming with me on the trip
- I will work with the school administrator, Shu, to get permissions and petty cash.
How I will evaluate my leadership development
- Speaking to students and teachers via email
- Meetings recorded with minutes
- A feedback survey at the end of the project
Public showing of the project
The comic book club will be the public showing of the work as this is where we will discuss the trip and what we learned about comics.
Risk assessment and health and safety
I used the school risk assessment template to consider the risks of the trip, I worked with teachers Jo, Melanie and Helen to identify the risks:
I shared this with relevant teachers at school.

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Student gets lost while catching the bus | Student distressStudent is lost | All students particularly ones who aren’t experienced with travel | M | Make sure all students have mobile phones and can call school or JoMake sure all students know the route before handOD and Jo/Jason to take a register on the bus and at the destinationTake 1 bus to minimize risk of separation | L | |
Troublesome members of public | Student Distress Safety concerns in event of altercations | Students, Staff and other members of public | M | Group together on the bus as much as possible (upstairs is the best option)Minimise time walking in open public spaces (school to bus stop, bus stop to shop etc;) | L | Encourage students to act sensibly as much as possible whilst enjoying themselves Teacher watches students they feel may be more problematic in certain situations (students are well behaved, shouldn’t be any problems) Certain friendship groups (Cael and Prince may need more focus) |
Lunch | Allergic reactions Reactions to hayfever | Myself and any other students/staff with hay fever (Cael)Students/Staff with allergens (Jaf) if present | L | Check with students for allergies.Don’t buy food containing said items | L | Have different options for a lunch place that will be good for everyone |
Sunburn/Heat stress | Confusion/Change in mental clarityConcentration lapses | Students AND Staff are all vulnerable | M | Advise students to wear protective items against the sun. Hats and Sunglasses will be highly encouraged if taking place on a sunny day.To avoid heat stress, we advise not using unnecessary layers of clothes whilst keeping skin/eyes protected. Jumpers will be advised to be taken in the event of bad weather but if hot we recommend having them around waists | L | Have lunch somewhere in the shade |
Stolen/Lost Items (Especially phone theft) | Student DIstressPossible problems returning to school (if oyster gets lost) | Students | L | Students give oyster to leading staff (Jo/Jason) to store safelyStudents will have phones as a safety resort but should not use them when walking in public areasStudents will be advised to not wear loose items like watches/chain | L | Use a hardcopy map rather than a digital map (google maps)? |
Fire/other evacuation measures | Health and Safety risks | Students, Staff and members of the public | L | In the extreme and unlikely scenario of a fire, we will have a register to takeWe will tell students to safely rush to the nearest safe exit (bee line) | L | Minimise time spent in the store if possible to simultaneously reduce the risk of being involved in a fire evacuationStores and premises will have their own emergency action plan |
Lost in store | Student Distress Student is lost (Safeguarding issue) | Safety risk of student Other students may also worryJeopardises the safety of other students if teacher has to look for students | M | Students will be given the number of the school phone to let them know their locationIf students can’t do this, they could find store security, go to checkout (likely place to be looked for) or go to customer supportStudents could be allocated in groups with an assigned teacher making separation less likely to happen and have workload divided across teachers | L | If grouped together, have a mix of younger/older students in groups so that teachers only need to watch 1-2 younger students |
Relevant Legislation
Risk assessments are undertaken in preparation for outings and visits. When out on trips,
From the Treasure House Staff Handbook
students are expected to represent the school and behave well at all times. Teachers are
responsible for students whether on or off the premises and school rules will apply as
appropriate.
All students learn from trips, experiences and workshops about their subjects,
From the core principles of Treasure House in the Staff Handbook
themselves and their community
From the health and safety policy:
