I am a teacher who helped organise the trip109I wasn’t on the trip, but I witnessed the process of Owen organising the trip, and it was very smooth and efficient.timescales, for example, sending the letter to the parents a bit earlier.I was very impressed on how well this trip was organised, all the little details were thought of i.e. travel cards. Owens’s email and letter-writing skills were really good. The students all seemed to really enjoy the trip.
I am a student who went on the trip109I enjoyed how we always had a task to do. Whether it was travelling there, shopping or eating lunch, there was always something to do.Nothing that springs to mind!I also thought that the task we were doing suited a lot of the students and everyone found it fun
I am a teacher who helped organise the trip88Owen writes amazing and thorough emails. They are very sophisticated! There was some confusion about who was going on the tripIt was clear on return that everyone had enjoyed themselves and got something out of the visit. I really hope this will set the scene for some animated get-togethers in future!
I am a teacher who went on the trip1010It felt very calm because everything had been well organised in advance.NoIt was a very successful and enjoyable trip. Owen was sensible, responsible, friendly and reliable throughout. The students behaved very well.
I am a student who went on the trip89Being allowed to go somewhere far and exploreAmount of time we have
I am a teacher who helped organise the trip1010Owen’s trip was very well organised and he planned for every eventuality.I can’t think of anything in particular.I think Owen did an excellent job organising this trip, he handled the task professionally.

My Project Report

The plan for my Arts Award Leadership project was to take a trip to Forbidden Planet to engage students with the art of manga and anime and to start a comic book association at school to discuss the project.

I think the planning stage for the trip helped with my leadership skills, I had to assess/review the characters of the group coming along and think about what was likely and unlikely to happen. Having to develop Plan A and then one or two contingencies also required some precision, creativity and delicacy. I also had to appear stoic as the leader of the group despite maybe not feeling that in the moment.

On the day of the trip, I needed to communicate boldly the details of the trip such as the route, the plan (as simply as I can with detail), rough timings for the 2 pm return and just for everybody to enjoy themselves. It felt hard at first but grew into the explanation to the group. The trip also helped my understanding of what manga/comics may be offered in store, I had no idea there were ‘Transformers’ comics until I saw them on the day and bought one for the school collection.

One element of my planning that was successful was that the timekeeping went extremely well naturally and we arrived back just before the due date of 2 pm. I also liked the “vibe” of the trip, everybody felt quite relaxed and happy on the trip and helped the trip feel fun.

I worked with Helen, Melanie, Shu and Jo in the weeks leading up to the trip and had lots of meetings and discussions with them. I was able to respond to their feedback along the way and made changes as they told me about important things to consider.  On the day, Jo and Jason did well at helping me lead but also stepped in at nicely timed moments.

I feel that the trip and leadership feedback was also encouraging, I appreciate the responses saying about the trip being planned and lead well. I also acknowledge the constructive feedback about the trip, the responses about ‘letters to parents being sent earlier’, ‘having more time on the trip’ and the lack of clarity of ‘which students will go on the trip’ catching my eyes. I feel like the time of the academic year we were in, we had about 2 weeks to plan everything and the letters could only be sent once everything was clear. The list of students going wasn’t made “public” to everyone at school, the plan was to pick older students with more experience being in public but also taking attendance into account. The timekeeping went exceptionally well and felt natural but I also wished there was more time on the trip because it felt everyone was enjoying themselves. Overall, the feedback was very flattering and I agree with the constructive parts, however, I also think the trip went the best it possibly could have done in the time frame we had for planning.

If I ran this trip again I might change the moving between destinations. The hardcopy maps i printed out were a struggle to use, I ended up using my phone (hidden from the public) to navigate the group to and fro.

This is the end of my Arts Award portfolio.
