Unit 1 – Mortality

Unit 2 – Treasure: An Art magazine by Treasure House Students

Unit 1: Part A

My main art form is Photography. I’ve done a lot of photography and film at school in Photography lessons and Media Lessons. Most of my photography was just of the natural world and using natural light. For this project, I learnt how to use the studio and to take staged still life photography in the style of photographers like Irving Penn.

Unit 1: Part B

I completed a two week placement with The Mechanic’s Institute Review, a creative writing magazine and website based at Birkbeck University. Working with one other student, I created a youth takeover of the site and set up a writing competition for under 18s. I mostly did this placement online from my school with one of the managing editors, Melanie Jones, but I also spent a day at Birkbeck learning about copy editing from the other managing editor, Peter Coles.

In this unit, I completed research into artists and art events. I conducted research into the Irving Penn, I visited the Olafur Eliason exhibition at the Tate Modern, I also visited Footprints Set Design in Peckham.

Unit 2: Part A

For my Leadership Project I was involved in the production of Treasure, an art magazine edited by students from Treasure House School designed to engage other students and the local community in the arts.

As I had completed a work placement at The Mechanic’s Institute Review as an editor in the past, I was assigned the role of managing editor so as well as being involved in the creation of the magazine, I was also able to pass on the skills I had learnt to other students.
